FreePost® Spider™ PVC 120 or PET 115:

Which Should You Choose for Indoor Posters?

For indoor posters, choose by the material clause, the press, and the finish. A white poster printed on eco-solvent, UV roll, Latex, UV offset, or laser toner calls for FreePost® Spider™ SP-PET115EW5. A non-PVC clause is met by PET or PP Spider™ models; in this 115 versus 120 choice, that means the PET 115 models. Choose a PVC 120 model when the design needs a finish the PET 115 pair does not offer, such as frosted semi-transparent (SP-PVC120E1S6) or white gloss (SP-PVC120E2W6), or when the spec calls for the listed 250±15 μm total thickness. Both families share the Spider™ dot adhesive, a −20 to 80 °C working temperature, and a one-year shelf life.

Indoor Poster Pain Points Under PVC-Free Procurement Rules

Material declarations now arrive at the quoting stage, before anyone looks at print quality. Retail, hospitality, and public-sector tenders often ask what the substrate is made of: a PVC-free base film, a substance declaration, or a fire class for the venue. If the poster film fails that paperwork, the job is lost before proofing starts.

Each Spider™ model has to be checked on its own. The family includes PVC models (the SP-PVC series) and PVC-free alternatives on PET (SP-PET series) and PP (SP-PP series). Scitop Ltd’s substrate notes describe PET film as dimensionally stable and tear-resistant, and PVC as having a weaker environmental profile. If the tender says non-PVC, choose a PET or PP model.

The next cost is poster changeover. Conventional permanent pressure-sensitive vinyl usually needs an installer to apply it and a cleaning step to remove it. In a store that rotates campaign graphics, that cost returns with every campaign. FreePost® Spider™ goes up easily, comes off easily, and leaves no residual adhesive. Store staff can swap poster-size graphics themselves, with no contractor visit and no adhesive clean-up on the glass or wall.

PVC 120 and PET 115 are separate families, with different finishes and printer lists. Quoting “Spider PET” without a model number puts the job on the wrong roll.

How Spider™ Dot Adhesive Film Behaves on the Wall

Spider™ uses a dot-pattern removable adhesive. Gaps between the dots let air escape as the film is applied, so a poster can be laid down bubble-free without special tools, then released cleanly with no residue. Typical jobs are short-term indoor applications of several weeks, such as seasonal promotions, exhibitions, and in-store campaigns. For a longer hold, switch to a long-term-rated film. Staff can change poster-size graphics without a specialist crew. Spider™ is designed for short-term indoor hold: within that period it can stay in place and be removed with no residual adhesive. For long-term indoor graphics, use Wall Lizard™, Octopus™, or the FreePost® AC series, and ask the factory to select by the required hold time.

The stated surface range is most clean, flat surfaces. The cleaner and flatter the wall, panel, or glass, the more evenly the dots make contact.

PVC, PET, and PP face films in this series carry the same dot adhesive, each with its own surface coating and printer list. Scitop Ltd has coated and slit inkjet media on its own lines for more than 20 years.

Shared by all six models: working temperature −20 to 80 °C, shelf life one year, Spider™ dot adhesive.

The data sheet for SP-PVC120E1S6 lists a 120±8 μm face film, an ≈130 μm release liner, and standard rolls of 1370 mm × 50 m / 100 m and 1520 mm × 50 m / 100 m. For the other models, the summary table gives one ≈ figure in the film column. Confirm with the factory whether that figure is the face film or the liner before it goes on a tender form.

Reading the table for compliance-driven jobs

Four checks cover most of these jobs:

- PVC-free substrate. Only SP-PET115EW5 and SP-PET115U1C5 qualify among the six. The four PVC 120 models are PVC. - White poster, eco-solvent press. SP-PET115EW5 and the white PVC models (E1W6, E2W6) all list eco-solvent. SP-PET115EW5 is the one that also meets a PVC-free clause. - Clear poster. SP-PET115U1C5 lists UV roll and Latex. SP-PVC120E1C6 adds eco-solvent and is PVC. A clear, PVC-free film for an eco-solvent press is SP-PET140EC5, a clear PET model with an ultra-clear gloss surface listed for eco-solvent, Latex, and UV roll. - Frosted or white gloss. Those finishes are in the PVC 120 family: SP-PVC120E1S6 (frosted) and SP-PVC120E2W6 (white gloss). Only E1S6 has an indoor rating in its data sheet.

Key Parameters and Practical Tips for Indoor Poster Runs

Thickness and handling

Compare total thickness, liner included. PET 115 models are listed at 165±10 μm total, about 6.5 mil at the 165 μm nominal. PVC 120 models are listed at 250±15 μm total, about 9.8 mil at the 250 μm nominal. Only SP-PVC120E1S6 states a face-film thickness: 120±8 μm, about 4.7 mil at 120 μm. After the liner comes off, the face film is what stays on the wall. The product data gives no stiffness rating. Judge handling on a sample roll.

Roll yield and poster count

Roll areas below use the standard sizes listed for SP-PVC120E1S6. Confirm sizes on the other models before planning a run. Poster counts assume two A1 sheets side by side (1188 mm of width) and 841 mm of roll length per row, before trim and waste.

Roll size Area (m²) Area (ft²) A1 posters (594 × 841 mm), 2-up across, before trim and waste
1370 mm × 50 m 68.5 ≈737 ≈118
1370 mm × 100 m 137 ≈1,475 ≈236
1520 mm × 50 m 76 ≈818 ≈118 (extra width is waste unless nested)
1520 mm × 100 m 152 ≈1,636 ≈236

A 50 m roll gives 59 rows, about 118 posters. On a 1520 mm roll, the extra width pays off only if a narrower item is nested beside the A1s. Divide the roll price by the roll area, then by your own yield after waste, for a cost per usable square metre.

Matching the press first

Choose the model by printer before choosing it by plastic. Compatibility is listed per model, and the two PET 115 models differ sharply:

- SP-PET115EW5 lists eco-solvent, UV roll, Latex, UV offset, and laser toner. One SKU can serve a wide-format bay and a sheet-fed or toner line. - SP-PET115U1C5 lists UV roll and Latex only. An eco-solvent shop cannot run it. - All four PVC 120 models list eco-solvent, UV roll, and Latex. None lists UV offset or laser toner.

Paperwork to request

Construction and print compatibility are in the product data. Regulatory class is not. Request the following for the specific model before you rely on them:

- Fire classification a venue may require, such as EN 13501-1 or ASTM E84. - Indoor/outdoor rating. Published Spider™ uses are indoor graphics. A formal indoor/outdoor line is printed only for SP-PVC120E1S6 (indoor).

Do not fill these in from the family name. PET models are PVC-free because the base film is PET; if the tender wants that in writing, request the declaration for that model.

Storage and installation

- Use the film within its one-year shelf life. - Apply it within the −20 to 80 °C working temperature. - Apply it to clean, flat surfaces. - Lay the film so the dot pattern can vent air. No special tools are required.

Common Failure Modes and Troubleshooting

The poster does not hold evenly, or lifts in places. Spider™ is specified for clean, flat surfaces. Dust, old residue, or an uneven panel keeps the dots from full contact. Move the graphic to a clean, flat area, or clean that area, then apply it again.

The ink does not sit well. Check the print method against the list for that exact model. SP-PET115U1C5 does not list eco-solvent. The PVC 120 models do not list laser toner or UV offset. Unlisted processes sit outside the published compatibility.

Cling is patchy after a wrinkled sheet, or after the film has cured. On Spider™ films, wrinkles and curing affect cling durability. Apply a smooth sheet that is still inside its shelf life.

The result differs from an earlier roll. Check the roll against the one-year shelf life and confirm it was applied within −20 to 80 °C.
